February 29, 2012
PIERRE, South Dakota: On February 6, 2012 Governor Dennis Daugaard announced his decision to appoint attorney Patricia DeVaney to the South Dakota’s Sixth Judicial Circuit. DeVaney will fill the vacancy left by Lori Wilbur who left the Sixth Circuit for a position on the South Dakota Supreme Court.[1]
Governor Daugaard commented on DeVaney's experience, saying “Patty DeVaney is a talented attorney who has distinguished herself during two decades of service as an assistant attorney general. Those who worked with her, and those who have worked opposite her, speak of Patty in the very highest terms. I am very pleased that she has agreed to serve our state as a circuit judge.”
DeVaney graduated from Polo High School. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Dakota in 1990 and later earned her law degree from the University of Virginia. She began work for the Attorney General’s office in 1993, where she worked up until 2012.[1]
