Biography

Patricia Goetz was born in Toledo, Ohio. She earned an M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh in 1974. Her career experience includes working as a physician. Goetz has been affiliated with the Rotary, the League of Women Voters, the Hudson Diversity Equity and Inclusion Community Group, the Ohio Psychiatric Physicians Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and the Northeast Ohio Society of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.[1]

I've been a Northeast Ohio resident for over 34 years, I have devoted my professional life as a Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist to helping children, families, and adults solve difficult problems involving many systems: from schools and courts, to county and state governments. This work, combined with my experience as a wife, mother, and grandmother, places me in a unique position to understand the needs of the people of the 27th district. My paramount goal in running for the Ohio Senate is to make government work for the children and families in our communities.
  • I vehemently oppose government interference between a woman and her doctor. I vigorously support a woman’s right to make her own healthcare choices.
  • I will fight for responsible gun safety laws that have the support of the vast majority of Ohio citizens. I oppose guns in our schools – period. I've spoken with teachers across the district and they agree.
  • Access to quality education should not be dependent on a child’s zip code. I support “The Fair Funding Plan” to reform public education resources so that our state funding program is no longer unconstitutional.
As a Child Psychiatrist, the mental and physical well being of my constituents is imperative. Due to Ohio's current six- week abortion ban, physicians cannot follow their oath of "First Do No Harm."

Adolescence is challenging for most girls and trans teens. Forcing them to undergo genital exams when their gender is in question will undoubtedly traumatize vulnerable students. We are better than this and our youth deserve to feel safe and supported at home and at school.

As a healthcare professional for over three decades, I will collaborate with frontline workers and health experts to bolster resources for mental wellness, expand access to quality healthcare, and reduce the high cost of prescription drugs.
This office is crucial, because they pass legislation that impacts Ohioans everyday lives. From funding for our schools and roads, to laws that regulate everything from businesses to reproductive choice, there is not one aspect of our lives that the Senate does not touch.
I have looked up to Ruth Bader Ginsberg for a very long time. She had always fought for women’s rights and served in a way that made peoples’ lives better. Helping to carry on that legacy is important now more than ever, as women’s rights are under attack yet again.
Barack Obama’s “Dreams From My Father”. It really spoke to me from the standpoint of needing to impact my community in a positive way if I have the capacity to do so.
Honesty and integrity are paramount. Being a critical thinker and great listener is also very important. An elected official also needs to understand that their job is to SERVE others above all else.
All my life I have tried to act with empathy and compassion in all that I have done, and continue to do. I want be remembered as a person who acted selflessly and always helped others, especially those who could not help themselves.
I was 15 years old when JFK was assassinated. I just remember how overwhelmingly sad and devastating it was.
I was a waitress for my father’s restaurant for about three years, starting at age 14.
I have endured many losses in my life. My daughter died at the age of 21. My husband passed away at age 59 after grueling battle with ALS. When I was six years old, my mother died unexpectedly which led me to having to live in an orphanage for a year. Although all of these things were extraordinarily difficult, it also made me very tough and resilient.
It’s important that I faithfully represent all of the people in my district using all the facts and data to make the best decisions when it comes to making laws and creating policies so that they affect lives in a positive way.
The most important skills are listening and having empathy. Both are critical when one is put in a position of trust and power by the public. Without those, how is one to TRULY understand and solve problems people face every day?
