Biography

Patricia Jay was born in Sherman, Texas. She earned a bachelor's degree from the Texas A&M-Commerce in 2001 and a law degree from St. Mary's University in 2006. Her career experience includes working as an attorney. Jay worked as a licensed juvenile probation officer from 2001 to 2003 for the Grayson County Department of Juvenile Services.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• It is time to bring change to the 45th District Court
• It is imperative to treat all parties in the court with dignity and respect.
• Each person deserves a right to be heard.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Family Law

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Treating the office with dignity is of utmost importance.

What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

I would have to say the Challenger Explosion- I was in the 2nd grade.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My very first job was working in the lawn and garden department at a local hardware store when I was about 14 years old. After that, I worked at a skating rink, the movie theatre, and tractor supply company. I worked at a bank while in college. After college graduation, I worked for the Grayson County Department of Juvenile Services as a case manager and licensed juvenile probation officer.

Why are you running for this particular court seat?

I believe it is time for change in this court. The court hears primarily family law matters and it is important to operate the court on a system of de-escalation by the Judge, not escalation. Treating everyone in the court with dignity and respect; affording them the right to be heard; and applying the facts to the law without bias, are all important polices that should be implemented in this court.

Do you believe that it's beneficial for a judge to have previous experience in government or politics?

I believe it is beneficial, but not the most important issue in terms of experience or being the most suited candidate. It is more important for a judge to have knowledge of the laws in the jurisdiction where they preside, and also to have had experience as a legal practitioner.

Would you be interested in serving on a higher court in the future? If so, which court appeals to you?

No.
