Stricherz ran in the 2012 election for South Dakota House of Representatives District 8. Stricherz and Leslie J. Heinemann ran unopposed in the Republican primary on June 5. Roy J. Lindsay and Scott Parsley ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012. Incumbent Mitch Fargen (D) ran for re-election in District 15.[1]

Stricherz defeated incumbent Gerald Lange (D) and Jason Bjorklund (I) in the November 2 general election. Stricherz was elected along with incumbent Democrat Mitch Fargen.[2]
