I am a former educator, Medical Doctor, former Chesapeake School Board member, small business owner and mother of three who has devoted my life to caring for the most vulnerable people in our society.

I have practiced psychiatry since 1993 and have enjoyed every opportunity to help my patients find their purpose and heal from their afflictions.

I have held many leadership positions and founded a non-profit in 2020 to address unmet community needs.
  • As a former Earth Science teacher and physician, I am very concerned about protecting the environment and I understand the intricacies of the environment and our health.

I believe all citizens should contribute to preserving the planet and curbside recycling is just one way the city of Chesapeake can help citizens to be active in this endeavor

I intend to work as a city council member to have curbside recycling reinstated.
  • Mental health is a strong determinant of overall health i and a healthy community is a productive community. Chesapeake currently does not have a single acute care bed for our citizens who need emergency admission for mental health crises, post-overdose treatment or medical detoxification for citizens who have chemical addictions. I will be working to ensure that these beds are available, in Chesapeake, to help this vulnerable population.
  • As the property assessment increase at an appreciable rate, citizens are shouldering the financial burden by ever increasing property taxes. It is a significant burden to the citizens who are facing increasing monetary demands each day due to inflation. I will be working to reduce the property tax rate to lessen the hardships faced by the people of Chesapeake.
I am passionate about public safety and safe communities for citizens.

I am passionate about strong educational programs and academic excellence.
I am passionate about having high paying jobs and affordable housing for people who want to make Chesapeake home.
I will support, encourage and work diligently to ensure that our first responders, public safety personnel and educators are paid for the important jobs they do.
I will work to ensure that they have benefits and job security.

I will be working to address the housing crisis and to bring high paying jobs to the city.
My mother was my hero.

She sacrificed her life for her children and others.
She showed unconditional love and loyalty and was always there encouraging and supporting.

I hope to be just a fraction of the woman my mother was.
Elected officials should be honest, and should have leadership skills, integrity and a heart for people.
I have a plethora of leadership experience as a former teacher, school board member, physician, business owner and mother of three.

I have integrity and commit to a cause and see it through.

I am a selfless voice for those who feel they don't have a voice.
The core responsibility of a city council person is to care for and to address the needs of the people while building a safe and productive community with great educational opportunities, jobs and affordable housing.
I would like to leave a legacy of unity, kindness and strong leadership that is fair, honest and committed to that which is in the best interest of people.
I would say that seeing my father put on his white coat, put his stethoscope around his neck and leave home to care for his patients had the greatest impact on me and my desire to become a physician.
I have clear memories of this at the age of three or 4.
My first job was one that I will always be grateful for.

I started working at McDonalds on my 16th birthday.
I could walk across the street to McDonald's from Booker T. Washington High School at the end of the school day.
I learned so much about customer service, teamwork, responsibility. budgeting money and hard work.

I worked there for one and a half years and returned during college breaks and during the summers.
The Moment of Lift

Melinda Gates
Melinda Gates is an amazing servant of the people who goes mostly unrecognized.
She has made tremendous contributions to humanity all of the world and she has been selfless and passionate about helping those less fortunate than she.

Her life has been devoted to service and caring for others.
Conqueror
Estelle and Jussie Smollett
Growing up in the 1960s as a minority integrating public schools certainly had its challenges. There were those who were not accepting of me and often judged me unfairly not because of who I was but because of what I looked like. There were opportunities I was sometimes overlooked for.

As a child, this was very painful.
I see the blessings in all of that now and it has led me to where I am today.

I have become the advocate for those who are overlooked, ostracized and judged unfairly. I have done this as a psychiatrist for the last 31 years.
I have been endorsed by the Chesapeake Democratic Committee, the Hampton Roads Realtors Association, the Chesapeake Education Association, Tidewater Fiber Corporation, Senator Lousie Lucas, Delegate Cliff Hayes the Elizabeth River Retired Educators
Government should be accountable to the people who elect them.

How taxpayer money is spent should be fully disclosed and this information should be available to all citizens who pay taxes.

Full transparency is expected and required.
