Taxes in NJ are out of sight so that is my first and primary concern. Economic Development: making NJ more business friendly, creating jobs. Enticing businesses to stay here.
Investing in our crumbling infrastructure.
Just about everythithemng government does entails spending money. The tax burden on the little guy is getting worse all of the time. For example the "Rain Tax" on top of the property taxes homeowners pay which in many municipalities in NJ already has a sewer charge piggybacked on is in many cases going to be a hardshipped. It is unconscionable. The governor implemented new programs such as free tuition for illegal aliens. There is a revenue shortfall so he does not have enough money coming in to pay the anticipated costs. Consequently he is determined to get the funds somewhere and that somewhere is the tax payer who is already overpaying.
I have looked up to several persons over the years, though she was not a Republican I would have to say Barbara Jordon from Texas, she is now deceased. Another Texan, writer Molly Ivins and womens suffragette, New Jerseyan, "Iron Angel" Alice Paul. These women were not afraid to say what they thought about issues important to them . They all took possession of their words regardless of what the powers that be had to say or in Alice's case what the powers did.
I believe that we all form our own political philosophy over time....but I would and do recommend to people who say that they don't understand politics to take one story in the news and follow it to fruition. Read everything that is out there about their story and before they realize it they will know and understand and form their own opinion about the issues. Also, be open minded and willing to entertain change.
Always tell the truth, possess the ability and commitment to follow through on promises made, don't be afraid to say I don't know but vow to find out and finally stop talking and listen to what people have to say.
All of the above, but also always call people back who call you even when they call to compliment you....say thank you. And give credit where credit it due to those who help me.
The core responsibilities of the the assembly is to ensure thru legislation the health, safety and welfare of the residents.
When I was mayor I was able to bring to closure a building project that the previous administration has kicked around, promised to the citizens and bonded money for for a period of about 15yrs. I got the project, a recreation center, completed under budget with a minimal tax increase. I would like to be able to again be part of solving a major problem for the residents of the state. I am not sure what it would be but I imagine with time it will present itself.
My very first job was in a theater box office in the summer of '68. Gone with the wind was released in color and was in limited engagements in only certain theaters. I learned how to be part of a team of workers.
Christmas is my absolute favorite, I was a window dresser back in the 70s and love to deck out my home with my collection of goodies.
I learned a very long time ago when going thru a difficult time that things are just that things. However, I have a few decorative items that were my mother's and I enjoy those simple kitchen and bric - a - brac items as they remind me of her.
A golden oldie, "Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me" by Mel Carter. Don't know why that was buzzing in my brain.
I was stricken with cancer in 2007, I underwent 7 surgeries in 6 months. I won that campaign and am cancer free.
Currently in NJ I don't see much difference at all, as both houses are controlled by the same political party. My party is seriously outnumbered.
Prior experience is not necessarily a plus in any political position, more important I think is bringing personal living experiences and business experiences to the job.
New Jersey's greatest challenge will be to remain financially stable, and come up with ways to encourage industry to settle here. We need to grow jobs, as our unemployment rate is higher than the national rate.
Even legislators cannot survive in a bubble they need to work with each other to get the job done regardless of their political differences. Without bipartisan cooperation nothing can be achieved.
Though I haven't thought about details for the process I would want to see independent individuals with no prior political experience heavily involved in the decision making process.
I am open to anything, I have prior experience managing a small business, sales experience, personnel experience, and have a family of 7 kids and worked full time;I can fit almost anywhere and handle just about anything.
I have served as Vice Municipal Chair, Associate Vice Chairwoman of the county committee and as the State Committeewoman representing my county to the State Organization. I am open to anything in party leadership.
During my first year as mayor I had to handle a major hurricane, major tropical storm, two blizzards and a minor earthquake here on the east coast. We had residents/businesses without electric for almost 2 weeks, i was so impressed by how caring the residents were to their neighbors and heard many stories of how wonderful my police officers were, I was also impressed by the number of residents who offered their talents to help others. It was heartwarming and solidified my belief that most people are nice.
