Alabama: On June 15, Patricia D. Warner suddenly resigned from the Circuit 15 Court. Previously she had announced that she would retire from the court on July 15, which is still unusual, since she was re-elected last November. Even more so, she refused to discuss the details of her retirement with the media.[1]

Yesterday the picture became clearer: Warner is the subject of a civil complaint served by the Alabama Court of the Judiciary. The complaint focuses on five different cases over which Warner presided, but manages to cram 74 charges into the 127 page document. Among them, the former judge is alleged to have taken campaign contributions from someone involved in a case in her courtroom.[2] The full complaint can be found here.

Warner has not yet publicly commented on the allegations and has thirty days to respond to the complaint.
