Carmody ran for election to the Chester County Court of Common Pleas.
Primary: He received 43.0 percent of the vote in the Republican primary on May 21, 2013. He cross-filed as a Democrat, but lost that primary after receiving 8.0% of the vote.
General: He was elected in the general election on November 5, 2013, with 36.5 percent of the vote. Julia Malloy-Good and Jeffrey R. Sommer were also on the ballot, competing for two open seats.Anthony Verwey advanced past the Democratic primary but dropped out over the summer.

Carmody earned his undergraduate degree from Penn State University and his J.D. from George Washington University Law School.[6]
