Campaign themes

2014

In response to a survey published by WLKY, Hughes answered several questions outlining his campaign themes and vision.

List 3 reasons voters should elect you:

Voters should vote for me because they know me and my family and can trust me to do the right thing for our students.

I have not only guided my children through the school system, but, I also served on the Exceptional Child Education committee and Sight Based Decision Making Council at Louisville Male High School.

While I fully support rewarding quality teachers, I have not been endorsed by the JCTA and will not be their puppet.

What are the most important issues facing JCPS?

The most important issue facing JCPS is helping all of our students reach their full potential.

This has to be done by not continuously raising property taxes on our citizens. Tossing more money at the situation is not the answer. Getting the most out of the 1.3 billion dollar budget the schools now operate under is paramount.

What is your vision for education in this community?

My vision for education in our community is finding ways for all of our children to want to reach their full potential, beginning with having them in schools and curriculums they (and their parents) want to be in. Many parents are turned away from neighborhood schools and magnet programs they want to be a part of. That's a bad start to any education.[5]
