2016

McDonald's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[10]

Political integrity

  • Excerpt: "Patrick Mcdonald has spent his entire career devoted to protecting and defending his fellow citizens from harm. His reputation for honesty and integrity are unquestioned. That kind of legacy isn’t built overnight, and it’s not sacrificed on a whim."

Education

  • Excerpt: "Parent’s concerns should be the driving force through which school boards and educators take their direction… not the other way around."

Right to life

  • Excerpt: "Rep.McDonald is a pro-life legislator, period."

Taxes

  • Excerpt: "Patrick McDonald believes in relieving the tax burden that Idahoans bear. His legislative record reflects that stance, and Rep. McDonaldhas stood his ground to refuse to increase taxes."

The Second Amendment

  • Excerpt: "Rep. Patrick McDonald’s votes demonstrate an unwavering commitment to supporting second amendment rights in the state of Idaho."

Separation of powers

  • Excerpt: "Rep. McDonald was the legislator that identified the flaw in the transportation bill that gave state law enforcement powers to the national guard. His catch led to a reworking of the bill into a better form that kept powers separated and centered with local law enforcement entities… as they should be."

Obamacare

  • Excerpt: "Rep. McDonald agreed with Governor Otter when he joined in the nationwide lawsuit to seek to overturn the ACA."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Idaho

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
