An effort to recall Patrick Phair from his position on the Waupaca School District school board in Wisconsin did not go to a vote in 2021. Recall supporters did not submit signatures by the deadline.[1]

The recall effort began in June 2021. To get the recall on the ballot, recall supporters had to collect 1,701 signatures from residents of the school district in 60 days.[2]

Phair joined the seven-member school board in 2014. His term was due to expire in 2023.[3]

Recall supporters

The recall was started by Shelly Morzfeld, a resident of Waupaca. Morzfeld said the reason for the recall was Phair's behavior at a board meeting on May 21, 2021. At the board meeting, Phair became angry and criticized the board for not following advice from medical experts about mask use during summer school, according to the Waupaca County News. While speaking at the meeting, Phair used an expletive.[2]

Recall opponents

In response to the recall effort, school board President Stephen Johnson said, "Recall is a political effort and it's not for the members of the board to make a comment."[2]
