Issues
Death penalty
Verschoore voted to repeal the death penalty in Illinois in a narrow vote on January 6, 2011. He was originally going to vote against the repeal, but was convinced by the high cost ($20 million annually) of death penalty cases that the state should not have the death penalty.
“I was on both sides of this issue. But then you think of the potential cost savings of this bill, and the state needs all of the savings we can get,” Verschoore told the media. “Besides, my wife was on me to vote for it.”[1]
