Patrick Wilson is a judge of the Sixteenth Judicial Circuit in West Virginia. He was appointed by Governor Earl Ray Tomblin (D) on December 11, 2015. Wilson succeeded Michael Aloi, who became a federal magistrate.[1]

Wilson ran for re-election in 2016.[2] Patrick Wilson won the general election on May 10, 2016.

Education

Wilson received a bachelor's degree from Fairmont State College and a J.D. from West Virginia University.[3]

Career

Prior to becoming a judge, Wilson was a prosecutor for 10 years. From 1991 to 2004, he was partner at the law firm Wilson, Fucillo and Shields, LLC. He has taught as a part-time professor at Fairmont State College.[3]

The judges of the West Virginia Circuit Court are elected in nonpartisan elections to serve eight-year terms. Judges must run for re-election when their terms expire.[4]

The chief judge of each circuit court is selected by peer vote. Term lengths vary by circuit.[4]

Qualifications
To serve on a West Virginia Circuit Court, a judge must be:[4]

  • a citizen of West Virginia for at least five years;
  • a resident of his or her circuit;
  • at least 30 years old; and
  • practiced in law for at least five years.
