I am running for Pierce County Sheriff to provide community-centered leadership and strengthen the bonds between our communities and law enforcement with a special focus on open communication and transparency to improve trust. With over 35 years of law enforcement experience, including key command positions, I have developed the skills, knowledge and leadership needed to tackle the serious challenges our community faces.
  • Strengthening Community Trust and Transparency:

My foremost priority is to rebuild and strengthen the trust between law enforcement and the community.

This involves ensuring transparency in all department operations, fostering open lines of communication, and being present and accessible in neighborhoods.

By actively engaging with residents, listening to their concerns, and keeping them informed, we can build a foundation of mutual respect and cooperation.
  • Lowering Crime and Improving Public Safety: Ensuring the safety and security of all residents is a critical priority. I am committed to implementing effective crime prevention strategies, increasing patrol presence, and utilizing data-driven approaches to identify and address crime hotspots. Additionally, I will work on increasing staffing levels to ensure we have enough deputies to meet the community’s needs. By collaborating with community organizations, local businesses, and government partners, we can develop comprehensive solutions to reduce crime and enhance public safety.
  • Tackling Mental Health, Addiction, and Homelessness: Mental health issues, addiction, and homelessness are interconnected challenges that significantly impact public safety and community well-being. I will prioritize expanding support within our law enforcement practices for individuals facing these issues. This includes increasing training for deputies on handling mental health crises and homelessness, improving access to resources for those struggling with addiction, and partnering with healthcare providers, mental health organizations, and housing services to provide holistic support. By addressing these root causes, we can reduce the strain on law enforcement and improve outcomes for individuals and families
I am passionate about getting results when it comes to public policy. I believe working with stakeholders, community leaders, businesses and labor, and residents is the key for successful implementation of public policy.

I am proudly endorsed by leaders from across the political spectrum as well as community leaders like former Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor.

I think this broad-based support demostrates my ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build a coalition of support that reflects the community’s needs and values especially in getting results in the public policy arena.
Memories of my mother who I lost when I was 16. - **Values and Morals**: Her commitment to justice, equality, innovation, or peace aligns with personal values.

-Resiliency and Perseverance**: her ability to overcome challenges and remain dedicated to her causes or mission.
- **Leadership and Vision**: Her ability to inspire and lead others toward significant positive change.

- **Impact and Legacy**: Her lasting impact she made on my world, leaving it better for me than when she left it.
I would say that the best way to understand my philosophy is through my activities in law enforcement. I have had active involvement in community organizations, such as the City-County Opioid Task Force and the National Association on Mental Illness, which has honed my skills in collaboration and community engagement. Those actions have shown my philosophy on public policy and my commitment to being a visible and accessible leader who listens to and addresses the concerns of residents.
I believe one of my key principles is my dedication to public service and unwavering commitment to the well-being of Pierce County’s residents.
Having served in key command positions such as Corrections Bureau Chief and Chief of Patrol, I bring a wealth of experience and deep understanding of the complexities of law enforcement. These are experiences that will help me serve as an officeholder.
The core responsibilities for this position are listed in my priorities above. I would add that it is important to be a leader with a proven track record, a commitment to integrity and transparency, and a vision for effective law enforcement. The core responsibility for this office is to ensure our Sheriff’s Department and its members stand as a model of excellence and integrity for our community.

I enjoy reading books that allow me to escape from real day to day events, but are relevant… Complex characters, intricate plots, evolving series.
I have a few in mind, but I identify with somebody humorous, witty, intelligent, and always moving to get things done.
If I answer this it will happen again!
Q: Why did the turtle cross the road?

A: To get to the SHELL Station…

Best told EVERY time you pass a Shell gas station on a long road trip with your family! It does NOT get old!
