Morrisette issued the following statement regarding her bid for office:
“ | Serving as a State Representative has never been a career ambition, however our current situation in Harrisburg has convinced me that we need to get our state back on track. I believe strongly in the conservative principles of limited government and low taxes and will be a strong voice for our local residents in Harrisburg.
As a Realtor, I come in contact with many residents on a daily basis and have heard far too many heartbreaking stories of seniors and homeowners being forced to sell their homes because they can no longer afford the high and increasing property taxes. This is a major issue and property tax reform will be one of my top priorities in the legislature. I will also fight for our residents against Governor Tom Wolf’s proposals to increase state personal income taxes and sales taxes. In my opinion, Pennsylvania residents are already overtaxed. It's time for state government to take a hard look at it's own spending before it starts taking more money out of the wallets of our hardworking taxpayers. Additionally, the proposed sales tax would hurt our local small business owners – and their employees – by driving more consumers across the border to Delaware - where there's no sales tax - for their purchases. I was born and raised in the 161st District and attended Ridley High School. My husband Butch and I, and our two children, Jacqueline and Peter, have resided in the Swarthmorewood section of Ridley Township for the past 20 years. I've been active in Republican politics since a young age through my parents, Bud and Helen Rodgers. I've also served as Republican committeewoman and election machine inspector. [7] |
