I was born in Kansas City and have lived here for the majority of my life. I currently live in the Brookside area with my husband Aaron. My parents, Rowena White and the late Jim White, instilled a sense of service to me at a young age and it continues to be a value I hold dear. I was raised in a union family and understand the importance of keeping our unions strong here in Missouri.

I have 20+ years of health care experience working as a registered nurse in the ICU and as an Executive at a global health care information technology company. I have been advocating my entire career for people from the most vulnerable patients in the hospital to the teams I led.

For the past four years I have had the privilege to serve House District 25 as their State Rep. I am currently the only registered nurse serving in the General Assembly. I am proud of what I have accomplished. My colleagues and I successfully stood up to the Republicans and their attempt to destroy the initiative petition process, and because of that, Missourians will have the chance to overturn our state’s total abortion ban this November. I have sponsored several bills that have been signed into law addressing our state’s mental health crisis, extending postpartum care, and increasing access to health care. My experience in the House, leadership skills, and health care background uniquely position me to continue to lead Missouri forward and promote a better future for all Missourians as State Senator.
  • Health Care including protecting reproductive health care: Defending a woman’s right to choose while ensuring full access to reproductive Health Care is imperative. As a nurse, I will not back down on protecting access to reproductive health care.
  • Gun Violence Prevention: We need common-sense gun reforms including universal background checks and red flag laws. As a nurse who worked in a trauma center, I saw first hand the impact gun violence has on victims and their families. Gun violence prevention and promoting gun safety are top priorities for me.
  • Protecting and Promoting Kansas City: Kansas City is where it’s at! I’m so proud to be a resident of this community. The Republican supermajority in Jefferson City is constantly trying to pick on us. As State Senator for District 7, I will stand up for our city and deliver results for our communities.
As a nurse by background, I am personally passionate about health care policy, including reproductive healthcare and gun violence prevention. As a state representative, I have been able to pass several laws to address our state’s mental health crisis and maternal mortality rate. As Kansas City’s next State Senator, I will continue fighting to expand health care access for my constituents.
The public figure who best represents my views on government and policy is Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. I am so grateful for her being a trailblazer and for her advocacy for gender equality and women's rights. Unfortunately, we are going backwards and many of the rights she protected are no longer in existence or under attack. As State Representative, I have stood up to the far-right supermajority time and time again. I’ve championed women’s reproductive rights, advocated for equal rights for all including minorities, LGBTQ+ Missourians, workers, and other marginalized individuals. I will continue this work in the Senate.
Absolutely! As a state representative I’ve been very successful in building relationships with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and in both chambers. I have worked with my Republican colleagues on several issues including addressing the horrific maternal mortality rate in this state by extending postpartum care to one year. Last summer, I invited my rural Republicans to Kansas City to tour Uzazi Village and learn about the important role of Doulas. I served with many sitting Senators when they were House members, so I have the relationships and experience that will allow me to deliver results for Kansas City starting on Day One.

I have 20 years of health care experience as an ICU/Critical Care nurse and as a health care Executive. I have been advocating for people my entire professional career. As an ICU nurse, I had full responsibility for total patient care for the most acutely ill patients. As an Executive, I was responsible for leading teams, building business cases, advocating for the team, and identifying solutions to improve patient safety for health care organizations across the world. I have devoted a lifetime to community service. I decided to run for State Representative because I am extremely concerned with what is happening in our state. Poor legislation and policies in place are leaving folks behind. I feel compelled to advocate for all those left behind and all Missourians for a better, brighter future. I have a very unique background that we desperately need in Jefferson City.
  • 20 years of health care experience
  • Real world leadership experience
  • Life time commitment to community service
I am personally passionate about health care, gun violence Prevention, equal rights for all and a transparent and ethical government.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Missouri

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
