Paul Avila
Paul Avila (Democratic Party) ran for election to the California State Senate to represent District 20. He lost in the primary on June 5, 2018.
Avila was a 2016 Democratic candidate for District 52 of the California State Assembly. He ran unsuccessfully for the same seat in 2012 and 2013.
Avila was also a 2014 Democratic candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 35th Congressional District of California.[1] Avila withdrew from the race prior to the filing deadline.[2]

Elections for the California State Assembly took place in 2016. The primary election was held on June 7, 2016, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016. The candidate filing deadline was February 25, 2016, for candidates filing with signatures. The deadline for candidates using a filing fee to qualify was March 11, 2016.[3]
Incumbent Freddie Rodriguez defeated Paul Avila in the California State Assembly District 52 general election.[4][5]

2014
Avila briefly ran in the 2014 election for the U.S. House to represent California's 35th District. Avila dropped out of the race before the filing deadline.[2]
2013
California State Assembly District 52
Avila ran in a special election for California State Assembly District 52. The seat was vacant following Norma Torres's (D) election to the California State Senate on May 14, 2013. He faced eight others in a blanket primary on July 23. He did not garner enough votes to advance to the runoff.[8][9][10]
California State Senate District 32
Avila ran in a special election for California State Senate District 32. The seat was vacant following Gloria Negrete McLeod's (D) election to the 35th Congressional District of California on November 6, 2012. Avila lost against Larry Walker (D), Kenny Coble (R), Paul Leon (R), Norma Torres (D) and Joanne Gilbert (D) in the special election on March 12, 2013.[11][12][13][14] [15]
2012
Avila ran in the 2012 election for California State Assembly District 52. He was eliminated in the blanket primary on June 5, 2012.[16][17][18]
