California: Governor Jerry Brown appointed attorney Paul C. Lo to the Merced County Superior Court in California. He fills a seat left vacant by the retirement of Judge Hugh Flanagan earlier in the year. Lo lives in Merced and has practiced law since 1994. He has had his own law office in Merced since 2003.
A graduate of the University of California at Davis and the University of California at Los Angeles, Lo spoke no English when he emigrated to the United States, at the age of 11. He said his appointment is a testament to the excellent educational opportunities that are available in this country.
Lo told the Merced Sun-Star he credited much of his success in life to his parents.
“ | I'm so thankful and so proud of them for what they had to do going through the Vietnam War, and what they and everyone in their generation sacrificed, and all the lives that were lost so we could be here today. . .[1][2] | ” |
It was just before Christmas when Lo says he learned Governor Brown would be appointing him to become a judge. He feels glad he will be able to continue to work with the community in Merced.
“ | My wife and I have five children and I came here to raise a family. . . and Merced has always been a great place. It's an honor to help make a little bit of history here at home.[1][2] | ” |
