Paul Collins is a political strategist operating in the state of New Hampshire. He was a state senior advisor for John Kasich's 2016 presidential campaign.[1][2] Collins has extensive political experience in New Hampshire, including work with the campaigns of former Governor John H. Sununu (R), former U.S. Senator John E. Sununu (R) and on presidential campaigns for Pete du Pont (1987), Steve Forbes (1995), Pete Wilson (1995) and Jon Huntsman (2012). Most recently, Collins worked as campaign manager for Ovide Lamontagne's (R-N.H.) gubernatorial campaign and the U.S. House campaign of Dan Innis (R-N.H.). New Hampshire Union Leader reporter John DiStaso notes that Collins' particular strength is "his knowledge of grassroots organizing and coalition-building."[3]
Career
Paul Collins is most closely associated with John H. Sununu, former governor of New Hampshire, and John E. Sununu, former U.S. senator from New Hampshire. The Columbus Dispatch called the Sununu family "the leading surname in New Hampshire politics."[4] Collins worked for the former governor as campaign manager on his gubernatorial campaigns; Collins was also a special assistant to Sununu in the White House, when Sununu was chief of staff to former President George H.W. Bush.[5]
For the younger Sununu, Collins managed successful U.S. House campaigns in 1996, 1998 and 2000. Collins then managed Sununu's U.S. Senate campaigns in 2002 and 2008.[1] Sununu won his race in 2002 but lost to Democrat Jeanne Shaheen in his 2008 re-election campaign.[6]
Collins has also worked on other New Hampshire campaigns, including recent runs by Dan Innis and Ovide Lamontagne as campaign manager.[3][7] Collins was also the executive director of the New Hampshire Republican Party

On May 26, 2015, WMUR in Manchester, New Hampshire, reported that Paul Collins would join New Day for America.[1] New Day for America was a 527 group that worked to raise money for Kasich's travel as he considered a presidential run and could coordinate with Kasich's official presidential campaign.[8] It officially filed to become a super PAC in late July 2015.[9]
Of Kasich's candidacy, Collins said: "Gov. Kasich’s record of balancing budgets, including balancing the federal budget as Chair of the House Budget committee in Congress, and cutting taxes, combined with his knowledge of foreign affairs and straight-talking style make him an ideal national leader with special appeal to New Hampshire residents. The governor has a record of really working for the people that is unrivaled."[1]
Kasich announced his bid for the presidency on July 21, 2015, and suspended his presidential campaign on May 4, 2016.[10] Collins has since joined Kasich's campaign operations in New Hampshire.[2][11]
