  • Fiscal Conservatism: Paul has a record as a fiscal conservative; in this time of record inflation, we need to live within our means and keep Utah the best managed state in the country with small, efficient, responsive government.
  • Personal & Religious Freedom: Paul is committed to protecting Davis County families and preserving our conservative values. Personal liberties and religious freedoms are fundamental rights that must be fiercely defended.
  • Education: The best investment in Utah’s future is the education of our children. Paul supports more money directly to the classroom for the biggest impact. Our current education system is not working for all kids. Parents have the right and the responsibility to be involved in curriculum decisions and to make the best education related choices for their children.
Planning for Inevitable Growth: Paul is passionate about the importance of collaborative local decision making. Our state is experiencing explosive population growth and an affordable housing crisis. We need proactive planning to balance economic growth with protecting and preserving our family friendly communities for us and for our grandchildren. Paul will fight against overreach and mandates and keep decisions local whenever possible.
I grew up working in our family orchard on the border of Farmington and Centerville. I learned the value of hard work, and the importance of pruning in the spring to have a good harvest in the fall. The pressures of growth has changed our community from a sleepy community of orchards and farms busy suburbs -- but it 's still a great place to raise a family. I'm committed to protecting our family values and to planning ahead so that our community remains a great place to live.
Growth is our biggest challenge. It's driving an affordable housing crisis. It drives our transportation challenges. Currently water is the limiting factor in our ability to manage our growth. We must develop new sources of water and we must incentivize people to conserve water.
According the Utah League of Cities & Towns in 2006 ~40% of State Legislators had local government experience. In 2021 only 10% of the State Legislators were former City Officials.

I believe that it's incredibly important to have legislators with local government experience as they can understand the impact of a law or policy on local cities, towns and districts. Local officials understand planning and zoning and the impacts of State regulations.

Legislators with local experience understand the importance of working together with all the stakeholders to find the best solution possible.
Our State Representative in District 18 will be just one of 104 state legislators. The reality is that to be effective, a representative must be able to work well with others. Good legislators work hard to find common ground with others. They focus on the principles and elements of a solution that are most important, and at times, they are willing to find compromises in less critical areas to be able to accomplish larger goals. Incremental improvement adds up over time and is better than no improvement.

I have a long track record of working well with others and of collaborative decision making—whether it was building a new fire station, working towards consolidating dispatch systems, or planning for regional roads.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Utah

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
