What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Expanding access to the ballot, implementing campaign finance reform, preventing unnecessary foreclosures, and improving access to city records are among my top priorities. Specifically, I want to arm residents with information regarding foreclosures, so homeowners have the resources to manage what can be a very difficult and overwhelming situation. I believe there are many opportunities for the Clerk and Recorder’s office and Election Division to improve and expand the interaction they have with our communities in a way that fosters a spirit of inclusion and ensures Denver is the best place to vote in the country. I also want to make sure that city contracts and the business that the city does is more transparent and accessible to the public. I believe that public contracts, deeds, and other documents should be fully digitized, available online, accessible to the public, and come without a trip downtown where you have to dig quarters out of your car seat. The Clerk and Recorders office has done an amazing job modernizing our elections, digitizing records, and taking the office to another level. I hope to build on that progress as the next Clerk and Recorder.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I'm passionate about community engagement, voter participation, transparency, and making Denver the best place to vote in the country

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

I believe what partially defines an outstanding Denver Clerk and Recorder is a person that will not only work to fulfill the base duties of the role, but be able to engage people across the political, age, gender, and socio-economic spectrum to participate in their communities and the electoral system at a time when so many have lost faith in its ability to affect positive change. I’ve built those partnerships to accomplish this vitally important work over the course of my life, which has been entirely dedicated to public service. Finally, it is our responsibility to ensure that the people of our city not just know of upcoming elections, but that civic participation is not just about Election Day. When we work together on a local level, neighbor to neighbor, fulfill the highest ideals of elected representation and increase overall voter turnout. Democracy works best when everybody participates.
