Showalter ran for election to the Orphans Court of Kent County.
Primary: He was successful in the Democratic primary on June 24, 2014, receiving 24.3 percent of the vote. He competed against incumbent Judge Elroy G. Boyer, Jr., Thomas James Lloyd, Jr., and Rosalie Brady Kuechler. Primary candidates competed for 3 seats.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 17.3 percent of the vote. He competed against incumbent Judge Elroy G. Boyer, Jr., Amy L. Nickerson, Elizabeth Carroll, and Rosalie Brady Kuechler.

Education
Showalter received his undergraduate degree from Dickinson College.[3]
Career
Showalter was an assistant director of admissions at Bucknell University and then retired from 3M Company, where he did sales and marketing.[3]
