Mathias ran for re-election for judge of the Indiana Court of Appeals 3rd District. He won in the retention election on November 8, 2022.
Mathias was appointed to the court by former Governor Frank O'Bannon (D) and assumed office on March 30, 2000. Mathias was retained by voters in 2002 and 2012.[1] His current 10-year term ends on December 31, 2022.
Biography
Education
Mathias earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies with a concentration in government from Harvard University, graduating cum laude in 1976. He received his J.D. from Indiana University Maurer School of Law at Bloomington in 1979.[1]
Career
Mathias began his legal career in private practice in Fort Wayne, Indiana, focusing on construction law, personal injury, and appellate practice. In 1986, he was appointed referee of the Allen County Small Claims Court. Mathias served as judge of the Allen County Superior Court from 1989 to 2000.[1]
