Campaign themes
2014
On his campaign website, McKenzie highlighted the following issues:[1]
Local jobs
- Excerpt: "We need a city council that first and foremost about hiring local workers for local jobs, bringing in new work, and continuing to improve Reno’s image.  I have been working on these issues at the city council, county commission, and state legislature for over a decade, and I understand the process and how to make it work better for our middle and working class citizens."
Education
- Excerpt: "There is much the city council can do to partner with the university and continue to build our reputation as a great, Tier 1 University Town. We can also support our K-12 system by making sure the city has resources like parks, libraries and rec centers. These supports keep kids engaged and out of trouble when school is out, which helps them when class is in session, as well."
Community
- Excerpt: "There is great energy, enthusiasm and ideas in this community. I’m smart enough to know that I certainly don’t have all the answers; my goal is to work with our best and brightest and promote and support the best ideas of all the citizens of Reno."
