I am the son of Harold and Garnet Novotny. Both graduates of the Elk River High School. Growing up on a farm that my mother still lives on, I was raised with a work ethic and life experience that one gets having the responsibilities of a dairy/hog family farm. Going into Law Enforcment after completing my AAS degree in 1987, I served the area as a Peace Officer for over 33 years. I was encouraged to continue my service to the community when State Rep. Nick Zerwas announced his retirement triggering a special election to fill the seat in February of 2020. I have served as a Representative since then. I am the Minority Lead on the Public Safety committee as well as Human Services policy and Ways and Means.
  • We need to immediately freeze new non-essential FTE positions from the 2024 budget.
  • Place caps on property tax increases to consumer price index and cap residential property taxes on senior citizens.
  • Ensure protections of free speech and equal access to public platforms.
Public Safety and the protection of all persons.
Do the right thing for the right reason all of the constituents.
Outside the farm was as a dishwasher at a local truck stop.
I worked at the cafe through college.
I believe real world(outside of government or politics) is much more important. Until a person has had to live with the regulations and tax policies they should not make or change laws.
I sat today with the family of a young man that lost his battle with drugs as his dealer was sentenced in court. The heartache will stick with me forever.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Minnesota

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states.  To contribute to the list of Minnesota scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.
