Campaign themes
2014
Diana Acampora, Betty DeSabato and Peller issued a statement on their campaign slate's Facebook page to outline their accomplishments and campaign themes:
| “ | • Guided the district while focusing on students and provided them with an enriching educational experience.
• Maintained the educational excellence of Half Hollow Hills in all decisions. While forced to make reductions, we sought the least impact to students. • Preserved comprehensive AP programs with 27 offerings, 129 interscholastic sports teams with scholar athletes. • Attained recognition as a 2014 Best Community for Music Education. • Introduced the Senior Experience program in BOTH High Schools. • Established Robotics programs for our younger students. • Expanded the Planetarium and Discovery Center programs. • Upgraded instructional technology. • Committed ourselves to providing responsible fiscal management while maintaining high educational standards and unprecedented levels of transparency and accountability in the form of public forums, community surveys, special board meetings, and a district steering committee/facilities group. • Developed school budgets which have adhered to the 2% Tax Levy Cap legislation and have negotiated several collective bargaining agreements that were beneficial to the district while respecting our employees. • Delivered the lowest budget-to-budget increase in 18 years with the 2014-15 school budget. Throughout the last three years one constant has remained--our resolve to do the right thing for the students and the taxpayers of our community. We have demonstrated and represented leadership, inclusiveness, transparency, fiscal management and experience-- qualities that are crucial for Board of Education trustees.[5] |
