Spaniola ran for election to the 51st Circuit Court.
Primary: He was successful in the primary on August 5, 2014, receiving 30.8 percent of the vote. He competed against Craig R. Cooper, David M. Glancy, and Susan K. Sniegowski.
General: He was defeated in the general election on November 4, 2014, after receiving 46.4 percent of the vote. He competed against Susan K. Sniegowski.

Education
Spaniola received his undergraduate degree from Central Michigan University and his J.D. degree from the University of Toledo College of Law.[3]
Career
Spaniola is a prosecutor for Mason County. He previously served as an assistant prosecutor, worked in private practice, and taught as an adjunct professor for the West Shore Community College Law Enforcement Program.[3]
