Nonpartisan primary election
Paul Shiraishi ran in the nonpartisan primary and received 237 votes. To advance to the general election, Hawaii election law requires nonpartisan candidates in partisan races to receive at least 10% of the votes cast for the office or to receive a vote total equal to or greater than the lowest vote total of a winning partisan candidate. Shiraishi did not meet that threshold.[1]

|I was born on Hawai'i's ninth island with deep family roots in Oahu and Kona - my family has been in the islands for more than three generations. My late father, Randolph M. Shiraishi, was a graduate of Radford High School, Army veteran, proud alumni of UH Manoa and the John Burns School of Medicine, and a respected ER physician. My mother, Colleen Leners, is a decorated nurse practitioner, combat veteran, and Bronze Star recipient. It's certainly a challenge to follow in such footsteps, but it is thanks to them and their sacrifices that I am able to dedicate my life to public service.
After high school, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. I served 5 years on active duty travelling the world and spending most of that time in the Asia-Pacific region. I continue my military service to this day in the Marine Corps Reserves where I am currently a Staff Sergeant. After active duty, I studied political science and economics at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. I have long been passionate- As a nonpartisan candidate, I will never shy away from bringing abuses of power to light.
- District 10 is one of the most dynamic small business hubs in our state. Hawaii was already a tough state to run a business before COVID, but now, they are in desperate need of help.
- I hope to help drastically improve our state's cost of living by working with the federal government to reform the Jones Act.
