Hello! I'm Paul Still. I'm a former Harris County prosecutor and current staff attorney for the highest criminal court in Texas, the Court of Criminal Appeals. I am Board Certified in Criminal Appellate Law and a member of the Texas Bar College and Criminal Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. I have been a practicing attorney for just over 12 years. I am running to become the next Judge of the 428th District Court because I want to help make our Texas judiciary the best that it can be. I believe my experience working in trial and appellate courts makes me uniquely qualified to serve my county and the wider judiciary as a district judge. I am also raising a family in Hays County, and I want to set an example of good, honest service to the community.
  • Judges should know the law and keep it well. As a Board Certified Criminal Appellate lawyer, I have demonstrated a commitment to keeping up with the latest legal developments. I have also spent most of my legal career working within the Texas judiciary.
  • Judges should show restraint. The role of a Judge is to administer justice according to law, not to impose his or her personal preferences. As Presiding Judge Schenck of the Court of Criminal Appeals has written, "Judges do not own courtrooms. They serve in them."
  • Judges should show kindness and respect to everyone. Throughout my career, I have demonstrated a willingness to listen, understand, and work toward common ground. I am committed to bringing those qualities to the bench, and to running a court in which lawyers are excited to handle their business.
