Paul Turner (California)
Paul Turner was the presiding justice of the Second District, Division Five of the California Courts of Appeal. He was appointed to the court by former Governor George Deukmejian and took his oath of office on August 28, 1990. He became presiding justice of Division Five on January 6, 1991. He was previously retained by voters in 2002.[1] He ran for retention most recently in 2014, winning a new term that would have expired on January 3, 2027.[2][3]
Presiding Justice Turner passed away in May 2017.[4]
Education
Turner earned his B.A. in political science from California State College at Long Beach in 1969. He received his J.D. from the University of California Los Angeles School of Law in 1972.[5]
Military service
Turner served in the Army National Guard.[5]
Career
Turner was in private practice in Encino and Los Angeles from 1973 to 1983. He was then appointed to the Los Angeles Municipal Court. In 1985, he was appointed to the Superior Court of Los Angeles County. He also served on the Intergovernmental Advisory Council on Alcohol, Drugs, and Traffic Safety by the appointment of Gov. Deukmejian and served as a law and motion civil judge.[5]
