Candidate Connection

Paul Walker participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on April 10, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Paul Walker's responses follow below.[3]

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1) Healthcare

2) Education
3) Jobs[4][5]

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?

Education -- because I'm a professor and have taught for nearly 20 years. I'm seeing more and more anxiety in young people, who see the older generations dismantling the social contract that enabled their success.Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[5]

Willingness to listen to multiple perspectives and to avoid ideological solutions.[5]
What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?
I'm a good listener; I'm thoughtful and not impulsive in making decisions; I make friends with people different than me; I can bring people together.[5]
What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?
To work hard with fellow elected officials in Washington to benefit everyone, not just a few.[5]
What is the first historical event that happened in your lifetime that you remember? How old were you at the time?

What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?
Relatively short term.[5]
Do you believe that it’s beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?
It can be, but it's not necessary. Many organizations have similar structures of governance.[5]
What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?
Revamping the healthcare system and maintaining economic strength.[5]
If you are not a current representative, are there certain committees that you would want to be a part of?
