Paul Zoss
Paul A. Zoss was the chief magistrate judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa. He was appointed to this position on January 27, 1997.[1] On June 8, 2012, he retired from the bench.[2]
Education
Judge Zoss received his B.S. degree in Finance from Indiana University in 1969 and his law degree from the Texas School of Law in 1972.[1]
Career
Judge Zoss began his career in May of 1972 as a member of a U.S. Justice Department's honors program, working for three years as a trial attorney in the Court of Claims section of the Civil Division. He was appointed Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Iowa in September of 1974. In 1977, he served as an Acting U.S. Attorney in Des Moines. That same year, he became a private practice lawyer. He helped found the law firm Adams, Howe and Zoss in 1984 and, in 1993, he became a Federal Public Defender in Iowa. He worked in this capacity until he was appointed magistrate judge in 1997.[1]
