I am a proud Mountain Democrat who loves her Eastern Kentucky home. My husband and I have chosen to stay in our county and raise our three children because there is no greater place than green hills and extended family. We see value in our history and know with the right leadership that we will also have a great future as our district is strengthened with jobs, education opportunities, and a healthy populace. As a teacher for over twenty years, I see how lives can be turned around with assistive measures.
Educational funding, job creation, healthcare coverage for our most vulnerable, grandparents' rights, tourism, infrastructure, effective prevention and treatment for drug addiction, workers' rights
Bert T. Combs and Martha Layne Collins. Two governors of Kentucky who worked diligently for the betterment of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and her people.
Dining room attendant at Long John Silver's, sophomore-junior year of high school
The State House and Senate compliment each other and work to reconcile mirroring bills, write budget proposals, and are accountable to their constituents. The one major difference is that any bills that raise revenue must originate in the House.
Prior experience in government or politics is not necessary to serve as a competent legislator. The perspective of a working class individual can provide more guidance than most career politicians.
Increasing revenue streams and restructuring the tax code are the two biggest challenges KY will face over the next decade.
The ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature is one that is transparent, honest, and built on trust.
Building relationships with other legislators is beneficial. This allows the sharing of ideas, information, and facilities trust.
My interests lie within state government as I see this having the most impact on Kentucky.
