Pearson confirmed to federal court in Ohio

Cleveland, Ohio: Judge Benita Pearson's nomination to the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on December 21, 2010. Pearson was appointed to this position President Obama over a year ago. She was recommended to the President by Sens. Sherrod Brown and George Voinovich and she replaces Judge Peter Economus as he takes senior status. She is the first black woman to serve as a federal judge in Ohio.

Pearson has served on the federal court since 2008 as a federal magistrate judge in Akron, Ohio. She has also worked as an assistant U.S. attorney, private practice lawyer, and accountant.[1]
