I am conservative and Christian. I have a degree and experience in nursing as well as teaching. I have a history of helping people find their way of learning and helping students and families navigate the learning experiences with students who have special needs. I have taught and will continue to teach classes to help people understand our constitution and our rights and responsibilities as United States citizens. I am a wife, mother, and grandmother. In short, I have a heart for people and especially children and want to see them prepared and free to live happy and successful lives as participating citizens.
  • Prioritize: I believe we must prioritize foundational and functional skills. Students must be able to read, write, speak, listen, use math concepts appropriately and accurately for everyday problem solving, apply both scientific facts (always changing) and the scientific method, and analyze both historical and current events objectively from multiple perspectives. To find truth, students must be able to evaluate sources for reliability, bias, and purpose. And, all this requires that students have regular opportunities and encouragement for critical thinking in an atmosphere of acceptance. There is more explanation on my website: peggycares4kids.com
  • Protect: Two key elements seem to be being infringed upon. Those are childhood innocence (mental, emotional and physical safety) and the rights and responsibilities of parents. Childhood innocence can and must be protected through agreement on age-appropriate materials and biological gender bathrooms and sports. We can address other choices respectfully. Respect for each family's values must be of high priority. With that we protect parental rights and responsibilities. We cannot give up on establishing the day-to-day home-school partnership that helps kids thrive; that incudes keeping no secrets from parents. More explanation is on my website: peggycares4kids.com
  • Provide transparency: We have amazing technology to keep parents up-to-date on grades and lessons. We need to help parents use the resources that already exist, and then we can do even better with transparency in curriculum, policies, and access to facilities. While some parts of curriculum and policies are accessible, the ease of that access varies. We can do better. There is much more on my website: peggycares4kids.com
I am passionate about policy and practice recognizing the importance of family to every child and that we value the most important role of parents. Research continues to show that day-to-day parent involvement results in better attendance, improved behavior, and enhanced academic achievement. Day-to-day means parents can access the help they need to help their children at home and guide their children's education. This is far more than attending parent-teacher conferences and special events although those are also good parts.

Listen. Understand. Seek wisdom from personal experience and others. Let the professionals teach subjects and look to the future of skills for future careers. Set policy to help all children have a safe and effective learning environment that respects them and their families.
My constituents are children, mothers, fathers, grandparents, families, and interested tax payers.
Prioritizing is key. Teachers are asked to do more and more. Some things just don't belong on their plates.

I believe the evaluation process used is thorough in evaluating effectiveness and enhancing teaching skill.
We, as has been, need to be careful with spending and always ask questions about where we can get the most from the expenditures.
I think I've already talked a lot about safety in more ways than physical. Mental health is certainly a key to being proactive.
Alertness is key. People are the best predictors of what their associates are going through. Having an atmosphere that first does not penalize someone for having a need is essential.
That was answered earlier. See the section on policies I'm passionate about.
I have no endorsements from organizations and no funding from organizations, just supporters from grassroots people like me.
The ideal learning environment is one where students are safe--physcially, mentally, emotionally, spiritually. This includes factors such as facilities, discipline, and practices that truly respect students and families. Of course the materials and technology must be available to facilitate learning. The professionals must be skilled in setting up the learning opportunities, relating to students, and modeling respect for all.
I will be present and available. I think it's also important to be in the schools and experience the learning environment.
The district has strategies for attracting and keeping quality teachers. Pay, mentoring, and respect are a huge part of that. Faculty, staff, and administration should be recognized for the value they add to the education process.
I want great care to be taken in introducing or addressing sensitive topics such as sexality. Age appropriateness and maturational readiness must be assessed, and there is a huge range in any classroom. Addressing sensitive topics is primarily the responsibility of the family and should not be assumed by the school without parent being well-informed and without specific parent permission.
It's here. We must face the good and the bad of it, the wonderful uses and the potential misuses. That's tough. When students learn to recognize AI, it can help them evaluate sources and information.
With my husband, I've raised three successful, contributing adults. All three learned different and chose different career paths. All three have stayed close in relationships with each other and with us, their parents.
