I am a proud resident of Albany with deep roots in our community. I was raised here and currently reside in the house where I grew up.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Holy Names University. My career has been dedicated to serving the Albany community. Notably, I worked for the Albany Unified School District for twenty-five years, primarily as the Albany Pool Director. My commitment to public service led me to serve on the Albany City Council for eight years, including three years as Vice Mayor and two years as Mayor. I am actively involved in our community through extensive volunteer work, including delivering Meals on Wheels. I hold leadership positions in the Albany Rotary, Albany Community Foundation, Albany Education Foundation, Albany Y, Albany Film Fest, and Albany Police Activities League. I have served on several City of Albany advisory bodies and a variety of regional and state bodies through my work on the City Council. I am currently on the Albany Police Commission. Through the League of CA Cities, I served on the Public Safety Policy Committee and the Community Services Policy Committee as well as the East Bay Division Board of Directors. I was a proud member of SEIU Local 2015 for many years as an In-Home Supportive Services worker.

I currently represent Albany on the Alameda County Housing Authority Commission and serve on the board of the East Bay Housing Organizations.
  • It is critical to ensure the fiscal health of our city through

    • Developing a balanced budget that prioritizes essential services and aligns with Albany’s values • Evaluating long-range financial planning to ensure unfunded liabilities are sufficiently funded • Continuing efforts to seek new revenue sources while ensuring we are receiving all the revenue to which we are entitled • Viewing all policies and projects across the city through an equity lens including developing a comprehensive framework that includes objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), targets, and a success matrix

I have a reputation for practical and pragmatic problem solving and I am prepared to have the difficult conversations to ensure these goals are met
  • Ensure Affordable Housing/Economic Stability by • Advocating for actions and policies that create and preserve housing, support tenants, and encourage strong partnerships between tenants and housing providers • Supporting a citywide study to determine needs and desires on a variety of issues. The result of this study will enable the City Council to consider community priorities and funding mechanisms to create a data driven and fully thought-out implementation plan. • Building on existing partnerships to support our unhoused neighbors and other vulnerable community members • Partnering with our local business organizations to uplift our independent businesses while encouraging the growth of the City’s economic development department
  • Ensuring environmental Issues are forefront by • Working with our Climate Action Committee and city staff to ensure our robust climate action goals are fully integrated into all aspects of city planning • Ensuring economic justice is at the forefront of all policies and programs through access to opportunities and education • Ensuring infrastructure projects, including street repair, transportation, and lighting, reflect our Climate Action goals • Viewing all policies and projects through an equity lens I have a history of advocating for implementation of climate action policies, including Albany's Climate Action and Adaptation Plan and support of the Paris Climate Agreement.
I am passionate in my belief that feeling welcome, safe and secure in one’s community is paramount to the wellbeing of everyone. I believe visual recognition of the many cultures that make up our community plays an important role in creating this welcoming and safe community. I led the successful effort to fly the flag of the Confederated Villages of Lisjan and the Pride flag in Albany. I was a leader in the Sanctuary City and the United Against Hate movements and am a strong supporter of Albany Juneteenth celebrations. I believe increasing and protecting our housing stock is vital for ensuring there is space for everyone.
Climate action policies must prioritize environmental justice through education on adopting sustainable lifestyle.
I always looked up to my daughter, Joann. Although she was severely disabled, she never let anything stop her. She was so determined, loving, and always smiling.
Honesty is the most important principle for an elected official; not simply telling the truth but working hard and giving an honest effort. It is standing up for what you believe and not bending to political pressure. Honesty is recognizing you are not all knowing and being willing to seek information and being able to admit when you are wrong. It is being able to say, "I am sorry, and I will do better."
Compassion and empathy support honesty. It is important to create a culture where all members of the community know they are welcome and feel safe and secure. It is critical to view all policies and programs through an equity lens.
I am hard working, practical and pragmatic. I like to learn new things. I am a good problem solver and enjoy bringing divergent viewpoints together to find solutions. I try to be kind and empathetic to everyone and I like to make people smile.
Core responsibilities include

• Being prepared at every meeting
• Doing the advance work required and forming opinions based on fact
• Speaking for those who may not have a voice, but knowing before you speak you must listen
• Considering every decision through an equity and environmental lens
• Bringing new and diverse members of the community into local government though advisory bodies
• Representing the City on regional bodies ensuring our voice is heard and strong partnerships are forged.
It is the responsibility of a council member to ensure these priorities are met:
Fiscal Stability
• Develop a balanced budget that prioritizes essential services and aligns with community values
• Evaluate long-range financial planning
• Enhance efforts to seek new revenue sources
• View all policies and projects through an equity lens

• Build on existing partnerships to support our unhoused neighbors and other vulnerable community members

• View all policies and projects through an equity lens

Environmental Issues
• Work to ensure our robust climate action goals are fully integrated into all aspects of city planning
• Ensure economic justice is at the forefront of all policies and programs through access to opportunities and education
• Ensure infrastructure projects reflect our Climate Action goals
• View all policies and projects through an equity lens

It is critical to build bridges to other partners, both within the city and regionally and statewide.
The election of John F. Kenney to the Presidency when I was 10 is the first historical event I really remember. The excitement of the campaign and watching my first inauguration fueled my interest in politics and history.
My very first job was babysitting at a Community Church. I believe I had this job for a year during high school.
I believe experience matters. I think it is important to have at least some knowledge of local government prior to becoming a council member. One of the best ways to gain this experience is by serving on a city advisory body. These bodies provide valuable information to both council members and staff on a wide range of issues and serve as a learning space for the members.

I bring a wealth of experience to this office. My commitment to public service led me to serve on the Albany City Council for eight years, including three years as Vice Mayor and two years as Mayor.
I am actively involved in our community through extensive volunteer work, including delivering Meals on Wheels to our senior citizens. I hold leadership positions in the Albany Rotary, the Albany Community Foundation, the Albany Education Foundation, the Albany Y, the Albany Film Fest, and the Albany Police Activities League.
I have served on several City of Albany advisory bodies and a variety of regional and state bodies through my work on the City Council. I am currently on the Albany Police Commission and previously served on the Albany Arts Committee and the Traffic and Safety (now Transportation) Commission. I also served on several city ad hoc committees, including the Youth Task Force and Golden Gate Fields Task Force.
Through the League of CA Cities, I served on the Public Safety Policy Committee and the Community Services Policy Committee as well as the East Bay Division Board of Directors.
I was Supervisor Carson’s alternate on the Alameda County Transportation Commission. I represented Albany on the Alta Bates Regional Task Force.
I was a proud member of SEIU Local 2015 for many years as an In-Home Supportive Services worker and am a strong supporter of workers.

I currently represent Albany on the Alameda County Housing Authority Commission and serve on the board of the East Bay Housing Organizations. I was a previous member of the Leadership board of Everyone Home.
I have currently been endorsed by the Albany Democratic Club, the Alameda County Green Party, the East Bay Young Democrats, the Asian Pacific American Democratic Caucus, Evolve California, Supervisor Keith Carson, Albany Mayor John Miki, Albany Board of Education Trustees, Becky Hopwood and Melissa Boyd, El Cerrito Mayor, Tessa Rudnick, Berkeley Mayor, Jesse Arreguin, Emeryville Mayor, Courtney Welch, Newark Mayor, Michael Hannon, Pinole Mayor Maureen Toms, Dublin Mayor, Michael McCorriston, and many other local elected officials. I have also been endorsed by many former Albany Mayors and Council members, current and former advisory body members, and over 150 community members. My endorsement list continues to grow
The community must be given the opportunity to participate in financial decision making. This is done not only during the actual budget process but through routine discussions on policies and projects. All financial reports must be available to the public in an easily readable format. It is the responsibility of the Council to develop a balanced budget that prioritizes essential services and aligns with the city's values. This must include long-range planning emphasizing unfunded liabilities.
