Four seats on the Penn-Harris-Madison Schools School Board were up for general election on November 4, 2014.
All four incumbents ran for re-election. At-large incumbent Christopher Riley, Harris District incumbent Larry Romero and Madison District incumbent Larry Beehler ran unopposed and won re-election to their seats. Board member Karyn Jaye Galloway defeated challenger Doug Chaffee for a Penn District seat.[1]

Penn-Harris-Madison Schools is located in St. Joseph County, Indiana. The county seat is South Bend. St. Joseph County is home to 266,709 residents, according to the United States Census Bureau.[2] In the 2011-2012 school year, Penn-Harris-Madison Schools was the 21st-largest school district in Indiana and served 10,451 students.[3]
Demographics
St. Joseph County overperformed compared to the rest of Indiana in terms of higher education achievement in 2012. The United States Census Bureau found that 26.5 percent of St. Joseph County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree compared to 23.0 percent for Indiana as a whole. The median household income for St. Joseph County was $44,989 compared to $48,374 for the state of Indiana. The percentage of people below poverty level for St. Joseph County was 16.4 percent while it was 14.7 percent for the state of Indiana.[2]

Voter and candidate information
The Penn-Harris-Madison School Board consists of seven members elected at-large or by specific geographic districts to four-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on November 4, 2014. Four seats were up for election in 2014.[1]
School board candidates had to file with their county elections department during the candidate filing period, which began on July 23, 2014, and ended on August 22, 2014. Write-in candidates also had to file by August 22, 2014. To vote in the 2014 general election, voters had to register by October 6, 2014.[5]

Penn District incumbent Karyn Jaye Galloway received an endorsement from the St. Joseph County Chamber of Commerce ChamberPAC.[6]

Fellow incumbents Randy Leliaert and Jamie Woods defeated Doug Chaffee for two Penn District seats.[7] 2010Newcomer Christopher Riley defeated fellow challengers Marcel Lebbin and Shawn Todd for the at-large seat. Incumbents Larry Romero and Larry Beehler ran unopposed and won re-election to their Harris District and Madison District seats, respectively. Fellow board member Karyn Jaye Galloway defeated challenger Jason M. Critchlow for the Penn District seat.[8] |
