Penny M. Wolfgang is a former justice of the Erie County Supreme Court in the 8th Judicial District of New York. She was elected to this court in 1986.[1] Wolfgang retired in December 2016.[2]

Education

Wolfgang attended the University of Michigan School of Law in 1961 and later that year earned her B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University. She received her J.D. from the New York University School of Law in 1964.[1]

Career

Wolfgang began her career in 1964 as an associate of the law firm of Jaeckle, Fleischmann, Kelly, Swart & Augspurger. In 1966, she became an associate of the firm of Lipsitz, Green, Fahringer, Ross, Schuller & James, where she worked as an assistant to Herald P. Fahringer until 1967. She served as the president of Legal Aid of Buffalo from 1967 to 1978. She also worked as a public defender, an Attorney-in-Charge of the Appeals Division and the director of the Prisoners Legal Assistance Project during this time.

Wolfgang taught as an instructor at SUNY Buffalo Law School from 1966 to 1967, 1974 to 1976, and 1980 to 1990.

Wolfgang began her judicial career in 1979 when she was elected to the Erie County Court. In 1986, she was elected to the supreme court.[1]
