2016
In January 2016, the PAC's chair, John Morgan, had announced that the petition to place the legalization of medical marijuana on November's ballot had met the required number of signatures.[4] The measure, Florida Right to Medical Marijuana Initiative, Amendment 2 provided for the "medical use of marijuana for individuals with debilitating medical conditions as determined by a licensed Florida physician. Allows caregivers to assist patients’ medical use of marijuana. The Department of Health shall register and regulate centers that produce and distribute marijuana for medical purposes and shall issue identification cards to patients and caregivers. Applies only to Florida law. Does not immunize violations of federal law or any non-medical use, possession or production of marijuana."[1]
The PAC noted that it had changed its strategy "to reach out to older voters to educate them on the good medical marijuana can accomplish with pain management."[4]
2014
In 2014, People United for Medical Marijuana campaigned in support of Florida's Right to Medical Marijuana Initiative. The amendment needed a 60 percent vote to pass, but received only 58 percent.[4] Morgan stated that the PAC had helped people register to vote who "never registered before." He estimated that "turnout [would be] two, three, maybe even four points higher than we might have seen, but for this."[5]
