The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 20, 2014. Chad Carnell defeated Pete Placencia and Zulma Velez-Estrada in the Democratic primary, while incumbent Mike La Rosa was unopposed in the Republican primary. La Rosa defeated Carnell in the general election.[2][3]
