Peter C. Anderson is a former judge for the Dane County Circuit Court in Wisconsin.[1] He served on the court from 2009 to 2020. Anderson was appointed to the position by Democratic Governor Jim Doyle in 2009 to fill the vacancy of retiring Judge James Martin.[2][3] He retired from the court on August 4, 2020.[4]

Wisconsin held general elections for local judicial offices on April 5, 2016. A primary election took place on February 16, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was January 5, 2016. Incumbent Peter Anderson ran unopposed in the Dane County Circuit Court general election for Branch 17.[5]

The 241 judges of the Wisconsin Circuit Courts are elected in nonpartisan elections to six-year terms. All judges must run for re-election if they wish to continue serving after their term expires.[6]

The chief judge of each circuit court is chosen by the state supreme court to serve a two-year term.[6]

Qualifications
To serve on the circuit courts, a judge must be:[6]

  • a qualified elector in the state;
  • a qualified elector of his or her circuit (for circuit judges); and
  • licensed to practice law in the state for at least five years.

Anderson ran unopposed for election to the seat he was appointed to in 2009 and won on April 6, 2010.[7]

Anderson earned his A.B. from the University of California-Berkely in 1976 and his J.D. from the Harvard Law School in 1980.[8][3]
