Peter Barnes, III
Peter Barnes, III (Democratic Party) was a member of the New Jersey State Senate, representing District 18. Barnes assumed office in 2014. Barnes left office on April 25, 2016.
Barnes also served as a Superior Court judge.[1]
Barnes represented District 18 in the Assembly from 2007 to 2013. While in the General Assembly, he served as Majority Whip. He served on the Edison Township Municipal Council from 1996 to 2007.
Barnes died on February 22, 2021.[2]
Biography
Barnes earned a B.A. in political science from Gettysburg College. He earned an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He earned a J.D. from the Widener University School of Law. His career experience included working as an attorney.[3]

Barnes won the 2013 election for New Jersey State Senate District 18. Barnes was unopposed in the June 4 Democratic primary and defeated David Stahl (R) in the general election, which took place on November 5, 2013.[4][5][6][7]

2011
Barnes won re-election in 2011. Barnes and incumbent Patrick Diegnan, Jr. ran unopposed in the Democratic Primary on June 7. They then defeated Joseph Sinagra and Marcia Silva in the November 8 general election.[8]
2009
Barnes won re-election in the November 3, 2009, general election. He was bracketed with Patrick Diegnan, Jr. and defeated Republican challengers Joseph Sinagra and Bob Jones, along with Defending Forgotten Taxpayers challengers Katherine Shkolar and Andrew Tidd.[9] [10]
