Peter C. Cavanagh is a judge of the Illinois 4th District Appellate Court. He assumed office in 2018. His current term ends on December 3, 2028.
Cavanagh (Republican Party) ran for re-election for judge of the Illinois 4th District Appellate Court. He won in the general election on November 6, 2018.
Cavanagh is also a resident judge of the Seventh Circuit Court in Illinois. He serves in Springfield.[1] He was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court in May 2008 and was elected in 2010.[2]
Education
Cavanagh earned a B.S. from Illinois State University, going on to receive his J.D. from the John Marshall Law School. He was admitted to the practice in 1997.[3]
Career
Prior to his judicial appointment in 2008, Cavanagh was a partner with the law firm of Cavanagh & Madonia, LLP. He also has experience as an assistant state's attorney for Sangamon County and as an associate attorney with Longdrigan, Potter & Randle, Attorneys at Law.[4]

Cavanagh ran in the February 2010 primary election for a seat vacated by Judge Robert Cook. He was elected after running unopposed. He received a rating of "recommended" from the Illinois State Bar Association Judicial Evaluations Committee.[7]
