Candidate Connection

Peter Churchman completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Churchman's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

1. Reduce federal spending by eliminating unnecessary and unconstitutional federal programs 2. Take back the power of the Legislative Branch that has been ceded to the other branches of government. It is imperative that we have 3 equal branches. 3. Congress should vote to send the American Military into a foreign country.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

1. The deficit and the debt. 2. Over sized federal government 3. The Bill of Rights 4. Excessive regulation and taxation

Is there a book, essay, film, or something else you would recommend to someone who wants to understand your political philosophy?

"The Law" by Frederick Bastiat

What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?

Doing what is right over what will win the next election

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

I believe in individual accountability.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

The core responsibility of every elected official from a city councilman to the POTUS is to protect the natural rights of the individual that we all are born with.

What legacy would you like to leave?

A legacy of smaller government and more freedom

What is your favorite book? Why?

"The Law" by Fredric Bastiat. "The Law" is an essay that explains exactly what government should do, and more importantly what government should not do.

What is your favorite thing in your home or apartment? Why?

My family, because they give me purpose.

What qualities does the U.S. House of Representatives possess that makes it unique as an institution?

Currently none

Do you believe that it's beneficial for representatives to have previous experience in government or politics?

No. We need to have citizen statesmen, not career politicians.

What do you perceive to be the United States’ greatest challenges as a nation over the next decade?

Returning power to the people and to the individual states.

Do you believe that two years is the right term length for representatives?

Yes

What are your thoughts on term limits?

Having term limits would solve some of the problems that we currently have in Congress, but not all of them. We need to find a way to separate money from politics, because money corrupts, but I have not seen a realistic way to do that.
