Louisiana elections use the majority-vote system. All candidates compete in the same primary, and a candidate can win the election outright by receiving more than 50 percent of the vote. If no candidate does, the top two vote recipients from the primary advance to the general election, regardless of their partisan affiliation.

When I moved from Ireland to Louisiana in 1971, it wasn't a coincidence. I knew that our country offers the best opportunities for entrepreneurship and prosperity. Louisiana has been my home of more than 50 years and I've built a business and a family and have made a difference.

Married to Dr. Pamela Egan for 43 years, I am the father of four and grandfather of six. I've shown myself to be a true conservative.

My wife and I founded Egan Home Health & Hospice in 1988. When we sold the company after 32 years, we had nine office and more than 400 employees. I know business, the economy, and compassion for the people of our District and our State.

For 30 years, the Egan family has made St. Tammany Parish home, sharing our values and raising our children to serve, work hard, and respect our heritage.

I earned a Master's Degree, served on the Pharmacy Advisory Board of the Joint Commission, served 8 years as Secretary-Treasurer of the LA Public Facilities Authority which issued billions of dollars in tax exempt bonds financing hundreds of industrial and economic development projects through the state. I served on the Causeway Commission and was a Commissioner of the St. Tammany Economic Development Commission. A 2006 graduate of Leadership St. Tammany, I served 15 years on the Republican Party Executive Committee, including as it's Chairman in 2016.
  • Having been in the healthcare industry for 40 years, I bring broad experience which will serve well in the legislature. The disproportionately sized healthcare budget increases taxes and gets in the way of other necessary elements such as infrastructure and economic development. Despite the size of the Department of Health budget, we are among the unhealthiest states in the union. Re-vamping the Department of Health will be among my highest priorities. ,
  • Having run a family business with up to 400 employees, I have significant familiarity with all aspects of the insurance industry. Most people are aware there is a close relationship between healthcare and insurance. I will bring that experience to work with fellow legislators, a new Republican Governor, to bring about much needed insurance reform.
  • The educational plight of the students of this state, needs immediate attention. I believe there is a strong desire among most members of the legislature to help return education to the historical level that made America great! Proficiency in the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic must be achieved. The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) focus should become a mantra for education across the state.
The above three would be among my top priorities. Additionally, the creation of a benign, inviting environment for business and industry will be key to addressing many of our economic needs. It will promote job creation, which when aligned with improved education, will serve to enhance employment opportunities and stem the out migration of our families and the best and brightest of our young people. Aligned with the above, is the need for enhanced investment in infrastructure.
Willam F. Buckley - He offers great insight into his personal journey of his own spirituality, in conjunction with the political world. He is the Father of quality conservative thinking.
Conservative. 40 years of healthcare experience which includes budgetary experience and human resource experience. It comes from having 400+ employees and meeting a $600K payroll every 2 weeks.
Create a formal structure to constantly hear the priorities of the constituents. That would mean frequently scheduled meetings and events to where their priorities are well aligned with my actions.
A budgetarily stable Louisiana.
Family Farm in Ireland throughout childhood through teenage years.
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Not having been born here, I am fascinated by this and similar depictions of Amercian Cultural History.
Itsy Bitsy Spider. Sometimes I hear it 10 times a day with Grandchildren.
Balancing the demands of a family business, the stresses of having to meet payroll, dealing with third party payors, all along side balancing the needs of a family.
The Legislature is the voice of the people and should hold privacy. The Governor should possess significant autonomy in executing the will of the people as it emanates from the legislature.
Several of the prior questions address this. The states' ability to address it's budgetary and taxation issues, healthcare issues, insurance and education issues during the next year or two of the legislature, will in large part determine the state's trajectory for the next 10 years.
Absolutely. The ability to engage in honest, productive dialog is essential in the formulation of good policy.
There are a number of legislators who have remained true to their conservative credentials in the process of achieving some good policies for the state.
I have never been described as a colorful person and do not have a repertoire of catchy jokes. I envy people who do.
It will most likely be focused on revamping the Department of Health and Human Services and reducing the cost associated with that department.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Louisiana

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
