Peter Flaherty is co-founder of The Shawmut Group, a public affairs consulting firm based in Boston, Mass. He served as deputy campaign manager and senior advisor to former Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.
Career
Peter Flaherty worked as an assistant district attorney in Boston, Mass., before becoming vice president of Walden Media, a family-friendly film production company. In 2003, Flaherty joined the staff of Republican Governor of Massachusetts Mitt Romney as deputy chief of staff and senior advisor. During Romney's presidential campaigns, Flaherty worked as deputy campaign manager in 2008 and senior advisor in 2012. He was in charge of building coalitions and managing campaign outreach to faith communities.[1]
Flaherty co-founded The Shawmut Group, a public affairs and campaign consulting firm, with Beth Myers and Eric Fehrnstrom. In 2013, he worked as a senior advisor on former U.S. Attorney Michael Sullivan's campaign for U.S. Senate. Flaherty also served as an advisor during former Republican U.S. Senator Scott Brown's 2014 campaign. He joined the presidential campaign of former Republican Governor of Florida Jeb Bush as an advisor in 2015.[2][3]
Flaherty serves on the boards of several Boston organizations including the Suffolk County Children's Advocacy Center and the Ally Foundation, an organization aimed at ending sexual violence. He also serves on the board of his alma mater, the New England School of Law. In 2015, Flaherty joined the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College as a senior fellow.[3][4]
