Peter Goldmark
Peter Goldmark is a former Washington commissioner of public lands. Goldmark, a Democrat, assumed office in January 2009. He was re-elected in 2012.[1]
Though eligible, Goldmark announced in April 2016 that he would not seek another term in office.[2]
Biography
Goldmark was raised near Okanogan, Washington. He is a graduate of Okanogan High School, Haverford College (B.A.), and the University of California at Berkeley (Ph.D.). After graduating from Berkeley in 1971, he did a postdoctoral fellowship in neurobiology at Harvard University before returning to Okanogan with his wife, Georgia.
Goldmark owns the Double J. Ranch, a 7,000 acre farm in Okanogan County. He founded and serves as the chief scientist of DJR Research, Inc., a biotechnology research laboratory. He was appointed the Washington Director of Agriculture in 1993 but resigned his post a short time after his appointment, and has served on a number of commissions and councils within the Washington State Government.[3]

Political career
Washington Commissioner of Public Lands (2009-2017)
Goldmark assumed office as the Washington commissioner of public lands in January 2009 and served through January 11, 2017. He was succeeded by Hilary Franz (D).
Elections
2016
Goldmark was eligible but did not run for re-election in 2016. "After talking with my family, I have now decided not to seek a third term as Washington’s Commissioner of Public Lands," he said in a statement.[2]
2012
Goldmark won re-election in 2012. He faced Clint Didier (R) and Stephen Sharon (No party preference) in the blanket primary on August 7.[4] Goldmark and Didler advanced to the general election.[5] Goldmark defeated Didier in the general election, which took place November 6, 2012.

On November 4, 2008, Peter J. Goldmark won election to the office of Washington Commissioner of Public Lands. He defeated Doug Sutherland (R) in the general election.

Goldmark was married to the late Georgia Goldmark, who died of cancer in 2003. Together, they raised five children on their family ranch. He is remarried and lives in Olympia with his wife, Wendy.
