Peter J. Sikora was a 2014 Working Families Party candidate for District 52 of the New York State Assembly.

Campaign themes

2014

Sikora's campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

Transparency and Reform

  • Excerpt: "Pete strongly believes that being a legislator should be a full-time job and supports a ban on legislators earning a second pay check. New Yorkers should not have to wonder whether their legislator is looking out for their constituents or their own pay check."

Education

  • Excerpt: "When elected, Pete will fight to restore higher top marginal tax rates for very the wealthy and eliminate corporate tax loopholes, in order to provide for our children’s future and other vital public services."

Climate Crisis

  • Excerpt: "Pete will work to institute a large-scale program of mandatory, aggressive building energy efficiency upgrades. Mandating high energy efficiency standards for buildings in New York would pay for itself in energy cost savings while greatly reducing global warming pollution and creating tens of thousands of good, sustainable, union-scale jobs."

Living Wage Jobs

  • Excerpt: "Raise the minimum wage to $15/hour (over the next few years). The minimum wage should be enough to lift someone living in New York City out of poverty."

Fair Taxation

  • Excerpt: "Without a more progressive tax structure, the State budget is effectively a zero-sum game and income inequality continues to grow. That’s why creating a more progressive system and adjusting the corporate subsidy systems will be a top of priority for Pete Sikora in the Assembly."
