Peter Knudson
Peter Knudson (Republican Party) was a member of the Utah State Senate, representing District 17. Knudson assumed office in 1999. Knudson left office on January 1, 2019.
Knudson (Republican Party) ran for re-election to the Utah State Senate to represent District 17. Knudson won in the general election on November 4, 2014.
Knudson served in the Utah House of Representatives from his appointment in December 1994 to 1999.
Biography
Knudson earned his B.S. from Utah State University. He went on to receive his AS from Weber State University in 1962. He then earned his D.D.S. from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at the University of Pacific in 1996. In 1969 he received his M.S. from Loyola University in Chicago. He also received his Certificate of Specialization in Orthodontics from Loyola University School of Dentistry in 1969.
Knudson has worked as an orthodontist, starting in that field in 1969.
Knudson is a retired Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. He worked for United States Public Health Service from 1966 to 1967. From 1956 to the present, Knudson served as a Colonel in the Utah Army National Guard.
Knudson served as a member of the Brigham City Council from 1974 to 1978. He went on to become the mayor of Brigham City in 1978 and served in that position until 1990.

Elections for the Utah State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 24, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 20, 2014. Scott Totman was unopposed in the Democratic convention. Incumbent Peter Knudson was unopposed in the Republican convention. Knudson defeated Totman and Kirk Pearson (Constitution) in the general election.[1]

Knudson was re-elected to the 17th District seat in 2010. He defeated Richard "Rick" Kent and Sherry Phipps in the general election on November 2, 2010.[2][3]

On November 7, 2006, Knudson won re-election to the 17th District Seat in the Utah State Senate, defeating opponents Arthur Douglas and Kirk Pearson.[4]
Knudson raised $53,769 for his campaign, while Douglas raised $9,700 and Pearson raised $5,768. [5]

The Sutherland Institute Scorecard
The Sutherland Institute, "a conservative public policy think tank" in Utah, releases its Scorecard for Utah State Representatives and Senators once a year. The Score Card gives each legislator a score based on how they voted in the prior legislative term on specific issues which the Sutherland Institute thought were pro-conservative policies.[10]

Knudson was Chair of the Brigham City Republican Party from 1972 to 1974. He then served as Chair of the Box Elder Republican Party from 1991 to 1993.
