Peter Leisure was a federal judge with the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He joined the court in 1984 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan (R). He assumed senior status on March 21, 1997. His service ended on September 17, 2013, upon his death.[1]

Education

Peter Leisure was born in New York, New York in 1929. He earned a bachelor's degree from Yale University in 1952. He earned an LL.B from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1958. He attended Columbia Law School.[1]

Military service

Leisure served as a U.S. Army Lieutenant in Artillery from 1953 to 1955.[1]

Judicial career

Southern District of New York

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Al D'Amato, Leisure was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on May 25, 1984, to a seat vacated by Milton Pollack. Leisure was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 15, 1984, on a senate vote and received commission on June 15, 1984. Keenan assumed senior status on March 21, 1997.[1]
